The Calatrava 24H Display Travel Time Ref. 5224R-001 takes the popular function and completely reimagines it to give us the dressiest Travel Time yet. Compared to previous models that offered the dual time zone via a GMT hand, the Ref. 5224R-001 does away with the extra pushers and day/night indicators in service of a more streamlined display to match the elegance of the Calatrava case.

Instead, all the hours of the day are now displayed on a 24-hour scale — with a twist. While many 24-hour watches place noon at 6 o’clock, the Ref. 5224R-001 sets it at the 12 o’clock position so that all day-time hours are at the top half of the dial, making it easier to read. Two centrally mounted hour hands — one of them open-worked — point to the local and home time. Conveniently, the times can all be adjusted via a three-position crown.

The 42mm wide case provides ample room for all 44 of the applied (and lume-filled) numerals and indices, providing stunning contrast against the navy blue dial. Additional finishing on the face — which includes circular striations on the dial centre, a satin-finished hour marker ring, and a snailed small seconds sub dial — add textural finesse.

Powering this traveller’s ticker is the automatic Caliber 31-260 PS FUS 24H, which runs at 4 Hz with Patek Philippe’s Spiromax balance spring and is wound via a platinum micro-rotor.
